Robert McMillan was born in 1910 in Wigtownshire, Scotland.
He married Mary McCallum in November 1940.

In 1941 he was living in Dumfries.
On the day Robert was killed, the 1st KOSB War Diary states,
"A little mortaring and shelling of the fwd coys and in the woods on our right. The attack of the 4 Armd Bde which was to have taken place at 1400 hrs through our posns finally went in at 1800 hrs and shortly afterwards PW started coming in. By first light they had captured and occupied STEIN 968416."
They were close to a German town of Goch. We have a post card/photo of Goch taken from Piper David Morrison's collection.
