Pte G. Briggs

George Briggs was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in June 1915.


He enlisted into The Duke of Wellington's Regiment in May 1940 and was 5 foot 10.5 inches and weighed 121lbs. After a month he was transferred to 'F' Company, 9th Black Watch Regiment. He joined 1st KOSB in March 1943.


He married Amelia Martin on 6th June 1942 (so D-Day was his second wedding anniversary!)


After being wounded in Normandy he spent just under a year on home service and then returned to NWE where he was posted to 5th KOSB.


He was released from service in April 1946.
