Pte. S.D. Collow

Samuel Dale Collow was born in June 1916 in Glencairn, Scotland. His Mother's maiden name was Dale.


He enlisted at Berwick-on-Tweed barracks in March 1940 and was 5 foot 2.5 inches and weighed 125lbs. His hair and eyes are described as brown. He was a shopkeeper's assistant before the War.


He was posted to 1st KOSB in June 1940 (they were listed as being in Shepton Mallet at that time) and embarked for Normandy on the 5th July 1944. *His service record states he was wounded on the 22nd July - not the 24th.


Samuel re-joined 1st KOSB in December 1944 and remained with them until Feb 1946 when he was posted to the 5th KOSB.


He was discharged from the Army in April 1946 and was living in Dumfries at that time.


He married Mary Sharpe in 1950 in Durisdeer.


Samuel died in February 2000 in Doncaster, Yorkshire and is buried in Morton Cemetery, Thornhill, Dumfries.
