Born under the name of Tom Jackson Young 2nd May 1914 at 6 Lockhart Place, Hawick, to parents John Halliwel Young and Marjery Jackson.


In 1933 Tom was out riding a horse which took fright in Princess Street and bolted. Tom was heavily thrown at the foot of Wilton Hill and was lucky to be unharmed. The horse belonged to his brother George.

In 1939 Tom joined KOSB Territorials.


He received his promotion to Officer at the end of 1940.

On 18th January 1944 at Cavers church, parish of Cavers, district of Kirkton, Roxburghshire, under the name of Thomas; stated that he was a Hosiery warehouseman and Lieutenant, KOSB. He married Margaret Grieve Lunn Scott. His older brother George was a witness to his marriage. 


In the same year Tom was a missing casualty on 22nd October. He was captured at Smakt (Holland) and he had been wounded. 



He was released in April 1945 as the War came to a close.



He is mentioned in the Borderers Chronicles issue published in June 1945.



After the war - 26th August 1949 Tom went to America as a salesman for Innes Henderson and Co, Margaret  arrived in New York C/O Braemar Knitwear and in 1950 they lived in Cedarhurst, Nassau, New York.


Tom died in his home town Hawick on 22nd April 2006 at the age of 91.
