HIS STORY

James Noble was born on the 15th of April, 1922 in Galashiels. His father was a 'Dyehouse Labourer'

He was listed as Missing in Action on the 10th May, 1940 whilst serving with the BEF in France.

It was later discovered he was a Prisoner of War and was held at Stalag XXIB Schubin in occupied Poland. He was assigned POW number 5712.

Sadly, James died just a few months before the end of the War whilst being marched from a camp in Marienburg (Stalag XXB). This was probably part of what the Germans called 'The Long March to Freedom' as they moved over 80,000 POWs away from the advancing Russian Army. The Marienberg march was over 1,000KM long and took over 3 months to complete with many men dying - or being killed - on the way.
