HIS STORY

Captain John Henry Douglas was in charge of Mortar Platoon on D-Day.

In April 1944, during Exercise HANDS UP (the Battalion's move from Selkirk to its pre-invasion camp near Wickham, Hampshire), he was named OC of the train carrying the Mortar Platoon's carriers and the Battalion's bicycles, though that train was postponed at the last minute.

He rejoined the Battalion during April 1945 after recovering from his wounds. (Borderers' Chronicle, June 1945, p.63)

He was promoted from C Company to command S Company. (Borderers' Chronicle, September 1945, pp.111, 112)

and the RAP remained where it had been throughout the battle, at 991367.
