Pte L R Champeny

Leonard Reeves Champeny was born on the 15th of April, 1914 in Somerset. Parents are Arthur Reeves Champeny and Elizabeth Hutchings.


He married Gertrude Skelding on August 6th, 1938. (She had been previously married to surname Hudson)


In the 1939 Register his occupation is listed as 'Grocer's Assistant (we believe) and he is living in Sodbury, Gloucs.


He joined the Royal Artillery in 1940


He was discharged from the Army in March 1946 and, at the time of receiving his medals in March 1950, he was living in Bristol, England.


Leonard died in April 1968 at the age of 53, in Bristol.





1st KOSB War Diary for date of wounds

At 0100 hrs the WANSSUM - HELLING pocket was again stonked and the RUR again tried to assault from the South, but again they were heavily shelled and mortared and held up by MG fire.


At 2130 hrs orders were given for the move the next day to the TIENRAY area (8523), in preparation for an attack with the RUR and a Bn of Churchill Tanks on the WANSSUM - HELLING pocket.
