HIS STORY
Leonard William McKay born in 1912 in Edmonton, Middlesex. His Mother's maiden name was Lambert.
In April 1944 he went south with the road advance party for Exercise HANDS UP, the Battalion's move from Selkirk to its pre-invasion camp near Wickham, Hampshire.
He is mentioned in the War Diary on 23 December 1944 and 25 January 1945.
Serving with A Company, he was wounded again by a booby trap on entering Werth in April 1945 – the only casualty A Company suffered that month – but was not seriously hurt. (Borderers' Chronicle, June 1945, p.63)
He was awarded his medals in 1949 and was living near Newport, Wales at the time.
*Official War Docs state W/Lt McKay was Middlesex Regt att. to KOSB and that, though wounded, he 'remained at duty'.
