D-Day. Potentially aboard SS Sambut

William Graham Kennedy was born in 1919 in Tundergarth, near Lockerbie, Scotland.

*We believe that Corporal Kennedy may have been aboard the SS Sambut on June 6th. (He is buried in the same row of the same cemetery in Dover that is occupied by other men who were confirmed aboard on that day). 1 officer and 10 men of 1st Bn. King'Own Scottish Borderers were aboard Liberty ship Sambut on 6th june 1944.

"The Liberty Ship was carrying 562 Troops from 28 different units, 63 Crew plus vehicles, large quantities of ammunition and high explosives. Three miles off Dover, it was hit by two 16 inch shells filed from German gun batteries 20 miles away at Calais. 45 minutes later, the Master gave orders to abandon Ship."
