He was transferred to 1st KOSB on the 24th of July, 1944. 1st KOSB War Diary for date of wounds Again heavily shelled and mortared all day. Up till today the forward Pl of C Coy and the standing patrols of A Coy were under constant observation from the railway or from just behind it. We stopped this by Arty fire put down just over the railway, and then the rapid occupation of forward positions before the enemy had recovered from the effect of the shelling. This was accomplished with success and C Coy established an OP in house at 795325, which observed across the railway but was rather restricted in its all round observation. There was slight enemy activity or movement to the East of the railway. Enemy strongpoint at 810320 established by OP and engaged by 25 pdr Bty. A Coy provided a fighting patrol and C Coy two recce patrols which established that the enemy were in positions at 789331, 800324 and at 799321. B Coy recce patrol heard the enemy in the South East corner of orchard 799310. Several harassing targets were engaged by our 25 pdr Bty during the night usually bring back answering fire to some extent. Contact patrols to the right and left. • 50 Franc Note (List) | 1stKOSBin1940s

1st KOSB Signals Section 50 Franc Note... One of our contributors, Rob Bowie, sent us some images of a 50 Franc French bank note that was signed by members of 1st KOSB's Signals section the night before D-Day. The note was kept by Rob's Father-in law, Norman Bowie , and, years later, Rob tried to find who the people were behind the signatures. We had a look at it but also didn't make much progress until we were checking medal cards for those wounded in action and noticed that, if the soldier survived, they normally signed their medal cards... This set us off on a quest and with quite a bit of detective work, we have managed to track down the names and some details on who these gentlemen were. *Huge thanks to Jenny for her outstanding work on this project! 50 Franc Note Face (1) KOSB_50FrancNote_Back Blank50FNote 50 Franc Note Face (1) 1/3 Signature Initials Surname Rank/Nickname Match Status Potential Match Service No. L E Bucksey Sgt MM Confirmed by signature Sjt. WEVERSLO Thursday 23 November 1944 Next Next Start Location: WEVERSLO End Location: VEULEN D-Day+ 170 23 November 1944 At 0300 hrs the Bn marching personnel started moving from the WEVERSLO area to the assembly area just to the West of VEULEN, arriving at about 0415 hrs. The Bn was formed up in the order B Coy, A Coy, D Coy with Tac Bn HQ and one sec of Pnrs in the rear. At 0445 hrs this party moved due South along a taped route to the Start Line, which was also taped, across muddy ground with numerous ditches full of water. At 0600 hrs, Zero hour, the Bn crossed the start line, ploughed through bogs towards the first objectives which were as follows:- B Coy Orchard at 775214 A and D Coys wood at 783217 and 782219. By 0815 hrs all Coys had reached their first objectives and reported no sign of the enemy. After this Coys leapfrogged forward till they reached the wood at 800226. Then shortly after 1600 hrs patrols forward on the main VENRAIJ - VENLO Rd made contact with 2 LINCS at 795235. After this the Bn moved into area of 800223 and into the houses round about. At this point the enemy had blown down a number of trees across the road, and had planted mines and booby traps round them. One man was wounded by these contrivances and the remainder were cleared away by the RE by last light. Locations of the Bn were as follows:- HQ at 800233, A Coy at 798233, B Coy at 799239, D Coy at 805232, S Coy in wood at 798229. S Coy were in enemy dugouts, and the remainder were in billets. It rained solidly all afternoon, as well as intermittently during the morning, so everyone was soaked through. Although everyone was under cover there was little chance of drying clothing during the night. The 15(S) Div were in occupation of HORST and the enemy were all East of the MOLENBEEK. We spent a quiet night.
