1st KOSB WAR DIARIES

01 June 1945

Marl-Recklinghausen-Waltrop, Germany

Around this time, the Battalion completed its move into the Marl-Recklinghausen-Waltrop area, taking on duties guarding Allied ex-prisoners of war and a large number of displaced persons from across occupied Europe; roughly 60-70% of the Battalion were on duty at any time, and conditions in the DP camps were poor, with food shortages leading to armed foraging parties from some camps.

Cpl. George Dorward Penman (26) died on this day.

1st KOSB on Guard duty in Palestine. From A Dorrity collection.
