Who we are and why we have built this site

We have been interested in the D-Day landings and the Normandy Campaign for many years and in 2014 setup a social media campaign to raise public awareness of the upcoming 70th Anniversary.

D-Day Stripes was born and encouraged people to change their social media profile photo to a DDAY70 image for the month of June 2014. This went really well and led us to meet the founders of the Fallen Heroes of Normandy archive. Due to this meeting we were invited to join them for a week in 2015 at the Memorial Pegasus museum in Benouville, Normandy. Whilst there we were honoured to meet some of the remaining veterans of the campaign, and visit some of the many cemeteries and museums throughout the region.

Whilst assisting with the Fallen Heroes of Normandy campaign, Richard became interested in finding out more about those who served with his Grandfather in the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers. He spent many hours on genealogy websites, social media and government portals trying to put faces to names and see if there were any stories left untold that could be collated for future generations.

Setup originally in 2013 to run the D-Day Stripes social media campaign, we now provide websites, photos and merchandise for various businesses and projects in the UK.

In honour of Richard's Grandfather, and his regiment, this site tracks the men and movements of the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderer's throughout their time in the Normandy campaign - and sometimes beyond.

The Fallen Heroes of Normandy archive is dedicated to researching and sharing information on all of those who fell in Normandy during the Second World War.

Links and thank you's

Special thanks go to Carl and Irena for helping us get the D-Day Stripes campaign off the ground over a decade ago, and for allowing us to be a part of the Fallen Heroes of Normandy 'adventure' in 2015 - and since.

A big 'across the pond' thank you also to Rob Houston in the USA who painstakingly researched a lot of the veteran stories and brought to life the names of those brave men who fought - and died - in Normandy.
