Left to become RSM for 6th KOSB

William Gibson Melvin was born in 1906 in Lanark, Scotland.
He served in the King's Own Scottish Borderers for over 20 years before his death, travelling to India, France - with the first BEF - and Normandy.
He enlisted in the Army at rank of Private and attained the highest NCO rank by the time of his death.
In 1941 he is listed as residing in Dumfrishire.
*We don't yet know when he transferred from 1st to 6th Bttn but it looks like he may have been with 'our boys' during the fighting in Normandy.
