His father was Lieut-Colonel G. S. Renny. He gained a commission in August 1928 and was promoted to Lieutenant in August 1931, then to Captain in August 1938. He was made a temporary Major in September 1940. He married Louise Margot H Wortham in July 1937 in Westminster. He died in January 1971 at the age of 62. *Newspaper cutting from The Bystander, July 14th, 1937. "Moving through the ruins of Escoville the Borderers climbed a long slope and dug in amongst the cornflowers and poppies and waited.
