About the 1st KOSB in Normandy website. Who we are and why we built it. About Who we are and why we have built this site We have been interested in the D-Day landings and the Normandy Campaign for many years and in 2014 setup a social media campaign to raise public awareness of the upcoming 70th Anniversary. D-Day Stripes was born and encouraged people to change their social media profile photo to a DDAY70 image for the month of June 2014. This went really well and led us to meet the founders of the Fallen Heroes of Normandy archive. Due to this meeting we were invited to join them for a week in 2015 at the Memorial Pegasus museum in Benouville, Normandy. Whilst there we were honoured to meet some of the remaining veterans of the campaign, and visit some of the many cemeteries and museums throughout the region. Whilst assisting with the Fallen Heroes of Normandy campaign, Richard became interested in finding out more of those who served with his Grandfather in the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers. He spent many hours on genealogy websites, social media and government portals trying to put faces to names and see if there were any stories left untold that could be collated for future generations. This site is our attempt to pay tribute to those brave souls who fell in Normandy and also give special mentions to those who survived and have contributed their time and recollections to preserve the story of the 1st Battalion KOSB KOSB_PiperDMorrisonUnknownDate KOSB Book Cover USCoastGuardJackHamlin2014 KOSB_PiperDMorrisonUnknownDate 1/31 Richard, Data monkey Grandson of two Normandy veterans, Richard works on data and photo collection and attempts to meet deadlines!
