Divisional Commander's Commendation Card (Feb); showed gallantry in Operation Heather - captured a German spandau after his Bren jammed, then rescued a wounded comrade under fire; G.O.C.'s Commendation Card April (as Pte.). pp.56, 61, 64
Pte. Bourge C Company showed the greatest gallantry during their attack. When his Bren gun jammed he captured a
German spandau and continued to give covering fire with that. When the Company had withdrawn he went back by himself to rescue a wounded comrade. Finding it impossible to get him back he remained with him in a crater not more than 100 yards from the enemy for four hours bringing him back safely after dark into our own lines.
