A fairly quiet day.

"C" Coy were in rather an exposed posn and were subjected to a certain amount of mortar fire during the day.

Lt Simpson of "B" Coy took out a fighting patrol to the farm at 959431 and inflicted several casualties on the enemy in the ensuing battle.

"D" Coy sent out a recce patrol to HERRINGSCHENHOF 963430, which was found to be unoccupied.

25th February dawned to find us holding quite a narrow sector on the left of the Brigade line, centred round the village of Buckholt 9543, some 4,000 yards west of Udem. The thing that struck us straight away was the incredible noise made by our own guns.

It is no exaggeration to say that they were never silent. At that time it seemed there was always a thrust being made in one place or another with the result that the guns were continually engaged or firing an intensive barrage.
