Daniel McKinlay Scobie (Scobbie at birth) was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1916.
He served in Palestine with the 1st Bttn Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in 1940.
In February 1943, whilst serving with the 1st Bttn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, he was recommended for the MM (Military Medal) for swimming approx 600yds in the sea - whilst under fire - to carry an urgent message to the officer in charge.
