Sadly, James died just a few months before the end of the War whilst being marched from a camp in Marienburg (Stalag XXB). This was probably part of what the Germans called 'The Long March to Freedom' as they moved over 80,000 POWs away from the advancing Russian Army. The Marienberg march was over 1,000KM long and took over 3 months to complete with many men dying - or being killed - on the way.
