Alternative Information (from books, personal accounts)
For the first task Battalion quarter guards, R.S.M.'s and Adjutant's drill parades, billet inspections, clothing exchanges, etc., filled in the mornings.
For the second task the country was divided into sectors which were allotted to Companies, and scrounging and salvaging parties went out in M.T. every afternoon. An enormous amount of salvage was collected, including over 8,000 jerricans.
In the evenings football, swimming, the cinema and E.N.S.A. concerts were available, and we were lucky to have a visit from the Royal Artillery mounted band which gave an excellent concert one evening.
