All day was spent in cleaning up kit and equipment and settling into billets.

Everyone appreciated very much the welcome given us by the inhabitants and the comfort and luxury of the billets.

D Company

Our billets were the best we had had up to this time. Many of the Sections were billetted in cafes, and it was learned from unauthorised sources that inspecting Officers were in good form by the time they had been round the Company area.

Another advantage of Herent was that it was only fifteen miles from Brussels and we were able to send parties in every day. We also had a certain amount of football, and it was here that No. 17 Platoon won the Company competition.

A few nights before we left, C and D Companies ran an inter-Company dance which was very successful. A large number of A.T.S. came along from a local gun site, and a few nurses came from Louvain to help swell the ranks. Corpl. Osborne was M.C. and he did a very fine job of work.
