St Helens Cemetery is in Windle, on the north-west side of St Helens, with entrances on Hard Lane and Rainford Road. It opened in 1858 and covers about 20 acres. Thomas Denville Barry designed its curving drives in a heart shape and Edward Kemp landscaped the grounds, a layout that has given it Grade II listed status. A crematorium was added in 1962. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records 328 identified casualties of the First and Second World Wars buried here.
