9th Infantry Brigade War Diary
0800 Bde moved out to new area and after an extremely “dusty” move re-opened in farm 637518. The intended location was reached at 1100 hrs, but combination of circumstances, mainly hygienic, resulted in the bde moving to a newer and sweeter smelling area.
1600 Armd Bde came under comd 3 Brit Inf Div. Bn localities 2 LINCOLNS 652521, 1 KOSB 645512, 2 RUR 638505.
We spent thirty-six hours in the quiet fields of Longraye, troubled only by the thick minefields laid by the enemy, and early on the 4th we moved again by transport to positions north of the Foret l'Eveque. The countryside was now becoming much more hilly and, as the Germans had made some rapid withdrawals in this area, the landscape was relatively undamaged and extremely beautiful, rather like the more wooded stretches of Tweed valley.
