9th Infantry Brigade War Diary
The intention to withdraw 9 Bde for a week's rest in CAZELLE was altered on the night of 30/31 JUL and instead orders were received for the Bde to conc in a bivouac area near BIEVILLE, 146 Inf Bde relieving 8 and 9 Bdes opposite TROARN.
"The days passed slowly and uncomfortably, until on the 31st July we were relieved and marched out of the Troarn position, back through Sannerville, and across the River Orne to Bieville. The extreme bodily and mental strain had left its mark upon the remnants of the Battalion and we hoped that at last we might receive a proper rest. This hope however, was doomed to disappointment."
