L/Cpl Edward Common

Edward Common was born in June 1916 in North Shields.


He enlisted in March 1940 at Berwick on Tweed and was posted straight to the KOSB. His pre-war trade is listed as Grocer.


He was 5 foot 6.5 inches and weighed 142lbs. His eyes were blue and his hair is described as 'fair'.


He married Jean V A Smith in October 1942.


*His wounded date is listed as 11th June on his Service Record. He was returned to his unit in August 1944 and was promoted to Corporal in Jan 1945.


He attended a 'Mines Course' in Feb 1945 and was posted to 5th KOSB in August 1945.


Edward lived in Whitley Bay, Northumberland at the time his medals were awarded - March 1950
