Arthur William Butchart was born on the 11th November 1917 in Dumfries, Scotland. His Mother's maiden name was Hobbs.
He was a lorry driver before the War and enlisted in the KOSB at Berwick-on-Tweed in February 1940. He was posted to Shepton Mallet in June 1940.
During the War Years he trained as a mechanic and became Army qualified. (His service record is signed by C.G.Stonor in some places).
He married Phyllis Lillian Jane Albon in Maidenhead, Jan 1944.
Arthur was wounded on Sword Beach and returned back to England the next day. He remained in the UK for the rest of the War.
Discharged from Army on 12th Feb 1946 at the rank of Corporal.
Died in Maidenhead 20th Feb 2014.
