Pte J.H. Cartmel

Joshua Hill Cartmel was born in Northumberland in February 1904.


Before the War he was a bricklayer.


He enlisted in June 1943 and was 5 foot 11 3/4 and weighed 154lbs. His eyes were described as grey and he had light brown hair.


He was posted to The 6th Bttn Border Regiment first and then transferred to 1st KOSB on 1st August 1944.


Joshua didn't return to the battlefield after being wounded in Normandy and remained on duty in the UK.


Joshua was discharged from the Army in December 1949 and was living in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire at that time.
