"On the 21st September we moved out of Achel, crossed the frontier, and entered Holland, stopping at the small town of Budel. This scrupulously clean and brightly painted little place was gay with orange banners and many of the girls were completely dressed in the national colours; the streets were packed, and once more we received a tremendous welcome. Our billets proved to be fairly comfortable and the Dutch showered hospitality upon us. Each night the streets were thronged with singing crowds and the troops quickly disposed of the remaining stocks of watery beer still left in the cafes".
